Black Friday Adventures

It’s 3 a.m., I’m sitting on the floor at Wal-Mart drinking coffee out of a thermos to help me wake up. So far, not many people are here, maybe 30 or so, at the most. I get up, get out my shopping list, turn to my partner in crime, and ask, “Why the heck are we doing this, again?”

Skip ahead a bit…

It’s now 4:50, and I have my hand on the “blitz” item I want, so that no one else will take it. I look around and see one woman almost foaming at the mouth, some pushing, others shoving and I can’t comprehend that just yesterday was Thanksgiving. There was a fight that broke out about a foot away from me around 4:00. Thankfully, it didn’t get physical, more of an in-your-face swearing contest. I’ve already been yelled at by two employees “not to touch the merchandise before 5!” , regardless that everyone around me was grabbing items and walking off, completely ignoring those yelling the rules. I was trying to be a good girl, I really was. I didn’t take items to hide under my coat, so that employees wouldn’t see I had them before the specified time. I didn’t push, shove, or even yell. But I was not letting go of this toy now that I had waited this long! No, I wouldn’t fight over it, but it did cross my mind when someone tried taking it out of my hand. Instead I simply took it back and replied, “I’ve been waiting for this one, but I’ll get you a different one.” If she tried again, I would give it to her. I’m a lover, not a fighter.

So why did I do it? This is where you expect me to say, “The bargains, the money saved! You couldn’t beat the sale prices!” Yeah, that’s the reason I started out. Is that why I’ll do it again, next year? No. I’ll do it next year because it’s the most entertainment I’ve had in a long time. I am an avid people watcher, and as any people watcher can tell you, the best time to watch is when someone is at their absolute best, or absolute worst. And there’s nothing like people at their absolute worst than 5 a.m. on Black Friday Morning.

Thanks for being my Partner in Crime, sis. I owe you one.

LOL, I love that there is someone else out there that understands why I get up at some godawful time in the freezing cold and go to a store while my hubby is fast asleep in our warm comfy bed!!!

Tell me about it! At first I was psyched that they didn't make us wait outside this year, but the closer to 5 it got, I realized that the cold used to slow people down...lol. Now I need a different strategy. ;P
