Silk Heart Health Soymilk Review and Giveaway

A recent study found that people who enjoyed three servings of Silk Heart Health per day for four weeks, as part of a sensible diet, lowered their cholesterol by 7%.
Silk Heart Health is the first U.S. soymilk to offer the combined benefit of two proven heart-health ingredients.1
* Soy Protein-a perfect, natural protein recognized by the FDA for its role in heart health.
* Phytosterols-a naturally sourced plant ingredient that also carries the FDA heart-health claim.
From diet and exercise to stress and sleep, every lifestyle choice you make can have an impact on your heart. With clinically shown benefits from two proven ingredients, Silk Heart Health is a natural choice for heart-health confidence you can feel.
Ok, I'm going to be completely honest. When I was contacted to do a review for Silk's new Heart Health Soymilk I was a little nervous. I had never tried soymilk before because I had heard from several people about the "unpleasant" taste. But always up for a challenge, I agreed.
Wow. That's what I have to say. It really tasted good! I don't know if it was because it was vanilla or what, but I really liked it! The added heart health and cholesterol lowering benefits were the "icing on the cake". I received two freebie coupons to get the half gallons for review, so I also got the Simply Silk Chocolate because I figured I could talk the kids into trying it. And yep, it was great too! No neither one tasted like "regular" milk, more like a milk "drink", but they were both really good and I could even easily replace the vanilla one on my cereal. So I tried an experiment on the kids. Before I let them try the chocolate I gave them a glass of the Heart Health with their breakfast for two mornings in a row. Then I let them have the chocolate with supper. The third morning, my son asked where the milk was and I handed him the Silk Heart Health. He said, "No, I don't like soymilk." "Really? It's what you've drank the last two mornings." LOL The look on his face was priceless, and yes, he poured and drank some, then said, "I guess I do like it."
Now, hubs and I don't have cholesterol problems thank goodness, and none of us are lactose intolerant, so I wouldn't replace our milk with this because it's more expensive than "regular". But I'm definitely going to watch for coupons like this $.75/1 Silk because I'm really wanting to try some of these Seasonal Flavors!
Now for the good part!

Become a Voice for the Un-insured.
The United States spends nearly $100 billion to provide uninsured patients with health services, often for preventable diseases or diseases more efficiently treated with early diagnoses. This burden is shouldered by everyone.
Reduce the burden by telling Congress to support the American Medical Association's plan which:
- provides all Americans with the means to purchase health care coverage
- gives individuals choices to select the appropriate coverage for themselves and their families
- promotes market reforms that enable this new approach
- increases access to care and expand coverage for the uninsured
The AMA’s Patients’ Action Network is committed to leading the response to solve the health coverage crisis for all patients. Join our efforts and tell Congress to support the AMA’s plan which expands patients’ coverage and access to care.

Printable Coupons for Brand Name Prescriptions!

I was contacted by YourRXCoupons to see if I would be interested in listing prescription coupons for name brand meds. Of course I said, "YES!"
Generic medications are much cheaper than name brands and most work just as well as the name brands, but there are some cases where they are different. Some people might be allergic to the coating used on the generics or they might have a different med added in that someone can't take with one of their other medications. Whatever the reason, they are stuck with paying the full price for the brand name, and that can get VERY expensive.
Hopefully these coupons will help cut back on some of those costs. YourRXCoupons has promised to periodically send me links to different coupons, but in the meantime, you can check HERE to see if they have your med listed. Who knows, with the coupon, the brand name may even be cheaper than the generic!
These coupons are currently accepted at over 65,000 pharmacies, including Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and Duane Read.

Thank You

I just wanted to take a short minute to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers while Haddie was sick last week. The little munchkin's fever broke after the 4th day and relieved us all. She's still a little puny, but well on the road to recovery. Except for my cold, no one else has gotten sick (thank you Jesus!). I hope everyone else is having a flu free season. Here are some tips to help you stay healthy.
1. Have a flu shot if (according to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices):
You are pregnant
You are over 50 years old
You have a chronic medical conditions, such as a lung or heart disorder, diabetes, kidney disease, or HIV/AIDS
You are a health care worker, work in nursing homes or other assisted living facilities, or a daycare
Do NOT get a flu shot if (according to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices):
You have an allergy to eggs (the ingredients for flu shots are grown in eggs)
You have Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare immune-deficiency disorder
You've had an allergic reaction to past influenza vaccinations
You are currently sick with the fever, you should wait until you are healthy
2. Wash your hands, regularly.
3. Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze and cough.
4. Take your vitamins. Research shows that the right vitamins and supplements can be a great way to improve your immune system's natural defenses against illness. Talk to your physician to know the best ones for your lifestyle.
5. Do your best to avoid close contact with anyone who is sick (like us moms can really stay away from sick kids and hubbies).
6. Get plenty of rest at night.
7. Drink plenty of water.
Have a happy, healthy week!!!

Discount Healthcare

Well, Americans voted and now we have a new President Elect. I am personally hoping that he can accomplish what he has promised about making healthcare affordable for everyone. This time of year, causes worries about flu and colds, and it’s no wonder with the prices of doctor’s care and medications, not to mention if one would have to miss a day of work. We should all practice preventative care, but if we do get sick, have a cavity, or (eek!) need glasses how do we get frugal deals on these things? Ideally, most of us would have health insurance, but that isn’t always the case, and some of those who do, have gigantic deductibles and co-pay.
CNN.com has an excellent article HERE with a lot of tips on just what to do if these problems pop up.
Here are some tips that I wanted to add.
1. The article mentions going to a dental school for work to be done on your teeth, but don’t stop there. If you have a local optometry school, get your eye exams there for a huge discounted rate. (This is where I’m lucky, my baby sis works in an optometrist’s office and we get big discounts!)
2. Ask your doctor for samples! Drug reps leave the samples for patients to try before buying, and on some medications doctors have more than one rep so they can get an overflowing supply (I use to work in a medical office.). So don’t hesitate to ask as most doctors and nurses are glad to grab some for you, even if you’ve been on the medicine before.
3. Places like Planned Parenthood offer services on a sliding scale for things like your yearly Pap/Pelvic, and they offer birth control at a hugely discounted rate.
4. Your local health department can give your kids their vaccines without the cost of a pediatric visit, you only have to pay for the shot and the administration fee, which can be as low as $5.
Hopefully, we will all be healthy this winter season, but if we do get sick, at least we’ll know where to start!
